Micro injection molding
Precision down to the smallest detail! Plastechnik AG can look back on many years of experience in the injection moulding of small parts and micro injection moulding. From small series to several million parts per year, we produce micro injection moulded parts of the highest quality from our own moulds with up to 64 cavities according to customer requirements.

Micro-plastic Components - at the push of a button
The starting point - Design follows process A cerumen filter that can be replaced independently by the user increases the service life and acoustic performance of modern hearing aids. The objective was to develop a filter system suitable for fully automated manufacturing - cost-effective, precise and ready for series production. The filter, smaller than a grain of granulate, is manufactured using micro injection moulding and stands out due to its filigree design and long service life. The Challenge - Bringing the smallest of parts into full-size view Implementation placed the highest demands on mould making, automation and the handling of micro components. Particularly challenging were reliable gripping, singulation and inspection of the filters within the defined cycle time. The process was complemented by camera-based inspection, laser micrometer technology and laser marking of the packaging. Tight delivery schedules as well as material changes - including the switch to glass-fiber-reinforced POM - further increased complexity. The Approach - Perfectly combined An interdisciplinary team from mould making, robotics and injection moulding developed an end-to-end production concept, ranging from feasibility studies and design optimization to VR simulation and the parallel implementation of tooling and automation. Quality assurance was carried out continuously using sample-based CT measurements. The Results - A world of sound Despite a fixed series launch date and ongoing material and design adjustments, the project was successfully realized together with the customer. The high time pressure required the parallel implementation of two production lines - both went into series production on schedule. Today, the cerumen filter system runs fully automated and reliably in production. It exemplifies the successful combination of micro injection molding, high-precision automation and close development partnership.

Milling/bending technology for small and medium quantities – without tooling costs
Our milling/bending technology makes it possible to implement individual designs cost-effectively. With this high-precision and powerful process, we can also manufacture smaller quantities flexibly and quickly – without any additional tooling costs. Thanks to the wide range of materials, colors, and accessories, we can produce unique housings and plastic parts that are perfectly tailored to our customers' requirements.

Minimised cycle time: MeKuMed research project - injection mould with handling
Turning five into three: Until now, there used to be five different individual manufacturing steps necessary for the production of medical crimp claps. As part of the state-funded “MeKuMed” research project, Hofmann has worked with project partners to develop a more efficient production in three steps only. Decisive for this: The mould developed by Hofmann, including a handling system for time-saving and automated production. From pilot mould to automated series mould - In the first stage of tool development, Hofmann created a new forming punch with different polishes and coatings for an existing test injection mould of the Institute for Plastics Development. - Following, a pilot tool with a single mould cavity was then designed, manufactured and further optimized to develop the combined process. - Using the resulting findings on the process and mould design, we then constructed and manufactured the final 4-cavity mould. New production chain With the new production chain, the time and equipment requirements can be significantly reduced thanks to our injection moulding tool. This results in a more efficient production with higher quality and which is less prone to errors. New manufacturing process 1. Microstructuring, pre-damaging and cutting out the blanks using a laser by project partner Fraunhofer ILT: circular pre-damaging allows the aluminium to be precisely removed. The rubber stopper can then be pierced with a needle. 2. Forming the metal blank into a crimped cap, followed by injection moulding the plastic component within the combined mould from Hofmann.
